The Company established an environment month for environmental education, and this time is used to explain environmental policy and significant aspects of the environment, announce environmental goal achievement, and discuss the current state of climate change, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and science-based targets (SBT). In this way, a variety of training programs are introduced for each personnel level, giving all employees the opportunity to think about what they can do.
At each of the Company’s business sites, all employees finish work at the same time, and this initiative reduces energy expenditure for air conditioning and lighting.
The Company has established periods during the year for Cool Biz and Warm Biz dress codes, and the air conditioning is set at reduced levels in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment recommendations: 28 degrees Celsius in the summer and 20 degrees Celsius in the winter.
The Company has launched a quality IT utilization project and has been engaged in activities for the purpose of considering and introducing IT to improve quality system operations and handle global quality assurance. In addition, the quality IT system operations launched in April 2019, and paper usage has been reduced by 12% in the 6 months since.
A company-wide proposal system is in place at the Company, and we are focusing on the collection of environmentally-conscious proposals for improving ecological operations. A promotional campaign is being implemented in June, which is the Company’s environmental month.
The Company has promoted the adoption of hybrid vehicles for use as company cars, and this conversion was completed in 2019.
FSC certified paper is used for our corporate brochure and internal bulletins, indirectly supporting forest conservation all over the world.
The Company is promoting the use of Eco Mark products because we believe their use will minimize environmental burdens.
Solar panels were installed on the roofs of the Nogi Division’s Operation Management Center (OMC) and Dried Product Plant (DPP) facilities, and they currently generate approximately 6,000 kWh per month on average. In addition, a monitor displaying a visualization of power generation conditions was installed. This real-time display spreads information about power generation and increases awareness of energy conservation.
At the OMC building which was completed in 2012, the construction was carried out with consideration for energy conservation and environmental burden reduction. As a result of these efforts, we were evaluated and awarded the A-rank Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency (CASBEE) certification for environmental performance of buildings (2012 - 2015).
The Nogi Division was awarded the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry Director’s Award in 2013 as a division excellent in energy management. Following a strict examination by the Tochigi District Electric Use Rationalization Committee, the Company’s efforts for leveling and rationalizing the use of electricity received extensive recognition.
At the Nogi Division, staff participate in the cleaning of the entire industrial park as part of our regional contribution and environmental conservation activities. The Environmental ISO Secretariat and General Affairs Section employees play a central role in the weeding and cleaning activities carried out in the ditches and roads around the division buildings each year.
The lighting in the Nogi Division is being converted to LED lights on a planned schedule. The research building and the 8th Factory are already completed, and the product management building is scheduled to be completed in 2020. Conversion to LED lighting will contribute to reduced energy consumption.
At the Nasu Division, employees at the neighboring facilities and industrial park carry out cleaning activities for the surrounding roads and parks, as well as inside the division, as part of the environment month initiatives in June every year. Through these activities, the beauty of the surrounding environment is maintained and employees develop an increased awareness of environmental pollution prevention.
The replacement of lighting with LEDs at the Nasu Division was carried out on a planned schedule, and the work was completed in August 2019, contributed to reduced energy usage.
